Βιογραφικά στοιχεία των ομιλητών:
Dr. Dolores Elkin is an Argentinean archaeologist and diver, Principal Researcher with the country's National Research Council (CONICET). In 1996 she created the first Underwater Archaeology Program in the country, based at the National Institute of Anthropology (Ministry of Culture). Throughout all these years Dolores has been in charge of several research projects, most of them involving shipwrecks from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Her work experience is reflected in an extensive publication record, both academic and for the general public. Dolores is Professor of the Seminar on Maritime and Coastal Archaeology at the University of Buenos Aires, and she has also trained people from many Latin American countries in the frame of UNESCO, institution for which she is part of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Body regarding underwater cultural heritage. Her work has been supported by prestigious Argentinean and international organizations, and she is a National Geographic Explorer.
Dr Chris Underwood is a maritime archaeologist and a member of Argentina's National Institute of Anthropology's underwater archaeology research team. His current interests are focused on the threat to natural and cultural heritage posed by potentially polluting wrecks. Chris is also a consultant to the Centre of Ocean and Undersea Technology, Tamkang University, Taiwan (RoC), providing advice and on the development of underwater archaeology and heritage management as well a visiting professor; capacity strengthening programmes, mostly recently in Latin America and Caribbean. He is currently President of the International Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (ICOMOS), a member of the editorial board of the Journal for Maritime Archaeology, and is a fellow of the Nautical Archaeology Society.
Julieta Frère is a PhD fellow at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and a doctoral candidate in Archaeology at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). She holds a BA in Archaeology from UBA and her MA in Nautical and Underwater Archaeology from the University of Cádiz (Spain) supported by a Fundación Carolina scholarship. Her research focuses on 19th-century maritime trade networks in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego (Argentina and Chile), particularly of British earthenware. She is part of the teaching staff in the seminar on Maritime and Coastal Archaeology at UBA. She has participated in projects documenting submerged archaeological sites in Uruguay, Spain, Italy, and Turkey.
